TN frogger70301: Mitch, LA beccas1963: So you are making that yellow and green item at the bottom of the web cam auntyalias: Ok, I'm going to do this purple to pearl with a bit of blue in it blend techi_mom56: kathy my clay was soft too...warm in here... techi_mom56: NJ is cutting the blend into strips.. beccas1963: why did she do that? techi_mom56: layed the blend on the pearl and cut long triangles to make a blend with.. techi_mom56: do you know how to do a skinner type blend auntyalias: Blends techi_mom56: the colors will blend together beccas1963: hmmm techi_mom56: that is the best tutorial on it... techi_mom56: she has the quickest easiest one..and a "no pasta machine" version too...thank god! beccas1963: oh good I don't have one yet techi_mom56: then you will love it....i didnt for a long time either beccas1963: why does she roll it like that? auntyalias: here's how you do it without a pasta press auntyalias: dig techi_mom56: nj are you twisting or just compressing? beccas1963: So many questions... But it is fasinating auntyalias: I jelly roll, flatten, twist, compress and pull techi_mom56: don't be afraid to ask away... beccas1963: I'll just watch for now. auntyalias: to get the middle of the flower and the stalk, you do a blend with yellow going to darker shades of green auntyalias: blends are blends auntyalias: you seen one then you can do a million auntyalias: just change the colors beccas1963: oh ok that is what that is. Thanks. auntyalias: now cut off a length of floral wire twice the length of your water lily stalk jude (greatauntjudy) joined the room techi_mom56: laugh..thats what mine needed... auntyalias: ../../../Flowers/WaterLily/Index.htm auntyalias: Here Aunt Jude auntyalias: catch up stuff jude: Howdy! jude: Okie. jude: Water Lilies, neat! auntyalias: I took that length of floral wire, bent it in half auntyalias: then twisted it leaving a loop for the top auntyalias: that's an anchor for the clay at the center of the flower auntyalias: I'll cut off a bit of this yellow to green blended ribbon and cover that wire, leaving the top yellow part sort of like a stubby cone shape, thin out the rest of the shaft frogger70301 left the room auntyalias: now it looks like the wire is twice as long as the clay auntyalias: that's only because the clay isn't rolled down the wire and thinned beccas1963: ummm where did the purple go? auntyalias: it's coming up, it's set aside while we do the center and the stalk beccas1963: oh ok auntyalias: if we left the center like this it would look a bit plain, so we'll poke the top of it with a wire, and score the outside of it going in an upward stroke auntyalias: see that tool there? beccas1963: The metal thing? auntyalias: That's a leaf cutter, plunger type, so we're going to cut out leaf shapes from that purple blend, auntyalias: Yes, that's called a Kemper Tool, they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes beccas1963: cool auntyalias: I use the leaf shape all the time jude: I love using the leaf shapes for things. beccas1963: how do you use it? auntyalias: so even though we could use the ribbon hand pulled I'm going to press it to get it as uniform as I can, since I do have a pasta press jude: You use it like a cookie cutter. jude: Roll out the clay and cut. beccas1963: thanks Jude jude: techi_mom56: okay i am back... beccas1963: what she doing now? beccas1963: oh I see auntyalias: each of these petals need to be stretched and in so doing they get narrow auntyalias: then they get attached to the center of the flower going around beccas1963: how do you stretch them? auntyalias: now there's this sequence of numbers, the Fibunacci series auntyalias: http://www.cs.uwm.edu/~scottk/JavaClass/spiral.html auntyalias: it's a mathematical thing you see in plants, the breeding habits of bunnies, how fractals work auntyalias: we'll be exploring that more as we go on for petal and leaf placement auntyalias: for now, we're going to start with four petals in the first row closest to the center and work out laying on the seams of the rows that went before auntyalias: I'll show you how to stretch these petals, you lay one on the tip of your little finger auntyalias: pressing the fat part of the leaf around the round of your finger tip auntyalias: then auntyalias: pull the pointy part of the leaf, the bowled bit will stick to your finger and that causes the stretch beccas1963: hmmmm auntyalias: saving the log, take a minute auntyalias: ok back techi_mom56: kathy i have figured out one thing...warm clay and mini are a challange bonsaikathy: yup bonsaikathy: agreed bonsaikathy: that's why I had to turn off the cam bonsaikathy: it's was getting to hot under the lights auntyalias: now you all know what I go through here all the time, eh auntyalias: LOL auntyalias: the evil laugh bonsaikathy: yup beccas1963: Do you try to make them all the same size? techi_mom56: laugh...yup..i havent done much in mini auntyalias: God Willing auntyalias: there's variations but since they are all the same leaf cut out auntyalias: they can only stretch so far auntyalias: so when you're forming it over your finger auntyalias: and pulling it auntyalias: you set limits for yourself, like pull as far as the hang nail beccas1963: ok I get you. auntyalias: that sort of thing techi_mom56: these are kind of the ugly ducklings of the water lillys...the little green glob on the stick is what the buds look like beccas1963: ok it is like shingling a roof you cover the seams with petals. auntyalias: I can't get that light color to show up right auntyalias: hold on auntyalias: there it is bonsaikathy: what a pretty color NJ auntyalias: it's making me crazy auntyalias: I keep on loosing the lighter color in the blend with the lighting problems beccas1963: It looks great bonsaikathy: I have the same problem when I do the webcam bonsaikathy: but it's really pretty anyway beccas1963: I see it bonsaikathy: hold it in the middle and I'll get a shot for you auntyalias: there beccas1963: Question: what do you do with the rest of the stem? If it is going to be in "water" bonsaikathy: I did mine without a stem just for that reason auntyalias: that's as close as it's going to be fore the color beccas1963: oh ok auntyalias: there auntyalias: jeese louise was that a pill to accomplish or what, the cam adjustments took longer than the flower beccas1963: So lets pretend I understand all this. I could do this for roses? auntyalias: just turn the petal around auntyalias: pointy end down auntyalias: fat part up auntyalias: wanna see? beccas1963: ummm sure auntyalias: let me close the curtains and I'll show you with the same blend techi_mom56: brb techi_mom56: okay i am going to leave the cam on...i did make a pad for it (sort of).. auntyalias: For the bud, you take one petal and roll it around the end of the stem side ways, like a flag buci131 joined the room techi_mom56: going to go fix some dinner... auntyalias: Yo Eva auntyalias: we were doing water lilies and segued to Roses buci131: Hiya auntyalias: ../../../Flowers/WaterLily/Index.htm buci131: Just popped in to say hi and see what's going on--can't stay long buci131: Oh yes, I went thru the Epson album on the white lily--really terrific auntyalias: I gave the blue nile lotus an effort buci131: really cool buci131: are you planning on doing the pads with them? buci131: or do they have pads normally? auntyalias: Just wrestling the water lilies to the floor first auntyalias: make them cry uncle buci131: heehee auntyalias: Showing Bec basic roses auntyalias: turning the leaf shape upside down from the water lily auntyalias: water lily is pointy end of leaf out auntyalias: roses are pointy end of the leaf in beccas1963: Do you stretch it? auntyalias: take the leaf shape and make it a rose petal shape beccas1963: you bend it then dahs512 joined the room auntyalias: you know what a rose petal looks like so yes, stretch the leaf shape to fit then after you put it on the stem, crimp the top of the petal beccas1963: okey dokey dahs512: I'm back but I don't know for how long auntyalias: ../../../Flowers/WaterLily/Index.htm auntyalias: got digi pix dahs512: Keegan got sick on the way to scouts auntyalias: I'm sorry to hear that auntyalias: he throwing up and stuff? auntyalias: something he ate? dahs512: I'm doing shim poi poi duty dahs512: good dahs512: I thought car sick +allergies dahs512: I don't know dahs512: not much buci131: NJ, that pink and white lily is really nice dahs512: Are you doing roses? beccas1963: yup I forced her to show me dahs512: they are sooo tiny auntyalias: I'm showing Bec that roses have the fat part of the leaf shape going outward dahs512: What a good job auntyalias: where as the petals for the water lily are turned around auntyalias: with the pointy bits outward auntyalias: the rose petal fat leaf side is stretched to make it a rose petal shape auntyalias: the pointy end of the leaf shape is pulled to get that water lily look auntyalias: both coming from the same leaf cutter tool claychik joined the room dahs512: Thse pics are great NJ auntyalias: Hey Sharon auntyalias: ../../../Flowers/WaterLily/Index.htm claychik: hi all! auntyalias: here's the catch up claychik: ooo, nice flowers! beccas1963: I just love all this demoing it helps tremendously. auntyalias: doesn't it though, then you can see it ain't all that hard auntyalias: seeing it done auntyalias: rather than reading it and only seeing still shots beccas1963: yup but that is good too. auntyalias: better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick auntyalias: that's for sure jude: Sure is! claychik: omg just saw matrix reloaded beccas1963: Question: when you bake them do you put something on the tray to keep the flowers kind of up? jude: I use bits of wood, but you can use almost anything. auntyalias: I wad up a bit of aluminum foil jude: Some use cotton balls. auntyalias: and jam them in there auntyalias: undelicately auntyalias: LOL jude: GASP! auntyalias: LOL jude: Hehehehe auntyalias: clay abuse auntyalias: once again jude: Right. jude: There you go again. auntyalias: I want to show all of you how to do a quick cala lily auntyalias: ok? beccas1963: ok so prop them up right? beccas1963: sure dahs512: ok jude: Cala lilies are really simple to do. claychik left the room dahs512: Nancy is making flowers too beccas1963: she is using another cookie cutter right? jude: Looks like it, yes. dahs512: a circle jude: Leaf pattern again. beccas1963: oh ok jude: I use mine a lot for flower petals. dahs512: only a bigger one dahs512: easy breezy jude: Yes.
