"*g.MSATClayArt:1" ( ) auntyalias: 003- 05-22-03, Starting on the Tin auntyalias: since there is a limit on the size of our rollers auntyalias: you can pull your sheet sideways by hand auntyalias: to make it wider auntyalias: see lommomy: Sorry I need to read back, I got a phon call from HP computers about my scanner that craped out. They won't fix my scanner and I will never buy another HP scanner, this is my 2nd one that craped out. auntyalias: 05-22-03-DemoLog-002.htm auntyalias: there's the log auntyalias: it's all there with links and everything auntyalias: see how I just wrapped one sheet around the tin? auntyalias: cutting out a bit for the hinges? auntyalias: I think I got it on backwards...LOL auntyalias: need the over hang to be on the bottom half auntyalias: let me turn it around' wi1dangl left the room auntyalias: after you wrap the whole sheet around, you cut the along the seam on the back auntyalias: when you use one sheet this way auntyalias: your design on your sheet will match at the hinge seam auntyalias: since it was continuous going all the way around auntyalias: to do the corners I do hospital corners, cutting off the excess, I could have cut little squares at the corners to do it another way but this way seems quicker to me ljcswartz: back--very nice auntyalias: so there it is, the Eyeball Tin lommomy: Clay will stick to the metal without glue? lommomy: after baking auntyalias: yes, because we've connected all the edges to itself auntyalias: it'll stay put if there's no big air bubbles auntyalias: no glue auntyalias: I never use glue auntyalias: now if I'm using paper mache boxes that are fluffy dusty auntyalias: I'll put a coat of TLS on it before applying the clay sheet lommomy: oh , do you bake the tls before putting on the clay auntyalias: I have tins that go back three years and none of the clay has fallen off of them auntyalias: Nope, just leave the TLS tacky so the sheet will stick to it, the TLS will settle down the fluffy dusty sides of paper mache boxes you get at the craft store auntyalias: sometimes, like with the On Black with Citrus box, the box I was using was slick and shiney, using a thin layer of TLS on that helped keep the clay sheet to stick to it lommomy: do you know if the new plastic Sucrets boxes will stand up to heat? auntyalias: I've never put one of those in the oven auntyalias: the only way to test it is to not cover it with clay auntyalias: put one in the oven for the amount of time at the heat clay needs auntyalias: and see if it doesn't melt into a pile of goo auntyalias: I used this tiny plastic box that held stuff for fixing eyeglasses, covered it with clay and cured it and it went goo on me auntyalias: ruined my pretty clay sheets I used auntyalias: I was sad auntyalias: lommomy: auntyalias: so now if I'm using something that I've not put in the oven before I'll test it ahead of time auntyalias: Oh I used a box that cheese came in auntyalias: Sproing, let me show you that lommomy: looks like I need to test a few things auntyalias: Biz-Archive/Sproing-thm auntyalias: I covered it with citrus slices on gold clay leaves and cured it and the glue came undone auntyalias: the box came apart ljcswartz: made me laugh auntyalias: broke my heart so I saved it and put it on the web so other folks won't do that auntyalias: I tell ya auntyalias: I figured, well hey ljcswartz: ahh auntyalias: we can use this for an example of how Future brings out the colors auntyalias: so it went into service there auntyalias: see the second picture lommomy: looks like it could of been a very nice peice auntyalias: Biz-Archive/Sproing-002 auntyalias: it served its purpose in showing how Future floor polish brings out the color on our cured clay bits auntyalias: so it wasn't a total loss auntyalias: taking these lemons and making clay lemonade. LOL lommomy: I have used future on one of my pens, lommomy: LOL lommomy: did not bring the shine I thought it would auntyalias: I got some discounted industrial floor acrylic, it's milky to start but dries clear and it works just as well as Future auntyalias: did you wetsand your pens first? lommomy: yes auntyalias: hmmm auntyalias: most folks complain that the Future makes things too shiney lommomy: how many layers do you put on? I did 2 auntyalias: just saved this log auntyalias: I have an appointment in a couple of hours so I'm doing the log pages as we go auntyalias: I best check my messages on the phone while I'm thinking about it, going to network with some women across the bay tonight with the Family Midwife auntyalias: brb lommomy: I need to make dinner soon lommomy: kids get upset when they don't eat LOL ljcswartz: will you be back later tonight?? auntyalias: She's not called me yet, I don't know what's going on auntyalias: she was supposed to take the day off of work because it was her birthday and I was supposed to go with her to this networking meeting in Oakland, across the bay from SF lommomy: Thank you for showing me how the box works auntyalias: I've left two messages so far so I don't know what's going on auntyalias: My pleasure honey auntyalias: I'd best check this tin for air bubbles under the sheet I sort of made it fast and it might be hiding air bubbles auntyalias: when popping air bubbles move it to a place in the design where there's a solid color auntyalias: then poke it and ease the air out auntyalias: then close up where you poked it auntyalias: if you poke where there is design you could goof up your design auntyalias: I'm going to take a lunch break auntyalias: got to eat something and I'll be back in a half an hour or so ljcswartz: ok thanks lommomy: OK I will do dinner and catch up in an half an hour too |
