Will do shargoose: Bye auntyalias: thank you so much Sharon shargoose: shargoose left the room jude: Night Sharon. auntyalias: I'm smoothing out the sketched on ears because I wanted to show you how I get the placement for the ears in the first place, but I got to get some more juice before I start auntyalias: brb jakmiami: Doing ears on MerMan auntyalias: Placement on ears auntyalias: the end of the jaw is the start of the ears auntyalias: if you touch the end of your jaw and push your finger upward auntyalias: you finger will go into your ear auntyalias: check it out jakmiami: that it does auntyalias: folks don't have ears that start in front of their jaw line auntyalias: and if their ears are further back it looks right weird auntyalias: now that gives us the vertical line and I'll draw it in on the MerMan here auntyalias: it's messy but ti's the line auntyalias: it's the line auntyalias: now do this on your own face, from the corner of your eye, draw a line with your finger and you'll end up at the top of the ear auntyalias: the start of the top of the ear auntyalias: a little bit of your ear will be above that line from the eye, but not much, unless you're Vulcan auntyalias: or an Elf jude: Or a Romulan. auntyalias: yes, that too auntyalias: or an elephant jakmiami: not to mention a ferengi! auntyalias: LOL auntyalias: or a troll doll auntyalias: so I'll draw a line from the corner of MerMan's eye going to the line that came up from the jaw auntyalias: now we just got to figure out where the bottom of the ear will be auntyalias: from the side of your nose, drawing a line with your finger, go out and see that line ends up at the opening of the ear, the lobe will be below it in most cases auntyalias: does that work with all y'all? jude: Yup! jakmiami: is the lobe about at the mouth line? auntyalias: just above the mouth line in most folks, but there's variation in lobes, some folks ain't got them and some have Buddha lobes auntyalias: all hanging down jakmiami: but from the side of the nose I get the earhole auntyalias: depends on the face, depends on what look you want, so I go for the opening of the ear auntyalias: as a gage auntyalias: yes, the opening is in line with the side of the nose, and the lobes can be variables auntyalias: so now we have the grid we need to build the ear auntyalias: the start of the ear will be level with the face auntyalias: for we don't have a ledge at the start of the ear auntyalias: we can take a snake of clay and make a question mark auntyalias: and lay it in that grid there auntyalias: smoothing out the face side of the question mark to be level with the face auntyalias: and the back side of the question mark can be sticking up somewhat auntyalias: let me get some clay to do that auntyalias: now it's a matter of smoothing the face side of the ear auntyalias: we can put the hole of the ear in now auntyalias: now the inside of the ear has all sorts of variations auntyalias: but usually there's two indentations, a cross bar between them that's raised up auntyalias: there's a bit of a flap in front of the hole, where our ear wax gets stuck when we're picking our ears auntyalias: but other than that, there's not much more to ears that I can tell ya auntyalias: the rest is making them even auntyalias: the same size auntyalias: having that cross bar on both ears, Denise did one ear with a cross bar and one without and didn't notice it until I pointed it out to her jakmiami: about how far back do they go? auntyalias: I guess that could vary too auntyalias: Prince Charles and Princess Di had ears that ended up in very different places auntyalias: but mostly... center of the side of the neck is what I'd do for them auntyalias: unless I was making ears that are exaggerated out of humor jakmiami: ok...mine seem to be coming out too big auntyalias: it's a practice thing, I did a bushel basket of ears before mine started coming out right, even and the same size auntyalias: since we're working from jaw, eyes, nose, those have to be in the right place first auntyalias: or the ears will go wonky, following eyes that aren't even auntyalias: following jaws that end in different places on the side of the face auntyalias: you see? jakmiami: yes indeed auntyalias: so I'm going to do the other side and hopefully the features aren't cock eyed and the other ear will be the same size, I'll cross my eyes for luck auntyalias: LOL auntyalias: they are uneven auntyalias: LOL auntyalias: but you get the idea jakmiami: yes, i see what you mean auntyalias: his features are off center because I have his face tilted, it would have been better to map out the ears before twisting his head and tilting it down auntyalias: but how far they should stick out is barely at all, somewhat or the owner of the ear won't hear things auntyalias: not too much or it'll look goofy jakmiami: how about making the ears separately (as a pair to get the size even) and then attaching them? Have you ever tried that? shargoose joined the room shargoose: All photos are up on the Epson site. shargoose: Love the ear jakmiami: looks good to me auntyalias: Judith, I sort of do them one by one on the head, because I use the other features to guide me auntyalias: if I made them separately and added them on I wouldn't feel confident about them being the right size auntyalias: Sharon I'll go check the pictures and send an invite to the list. brb shargoose: Let me know if you amnt any more fill in shots shargoose: I took 96 and pared down to 31 shargoose: I ment want any more photos! jakmiami: NJ, I've got a log of this, but couldn't figure out how to get screen shots (somebody else's computer)...if you want the log, I can email it to you shargoose: I'd sure like to see it shargoose: Wish I hadn't missed this jakmiami: even without pix, it's pretty clear on placement and size shargoose: Good. shargoose: I do a lot of figures and ears are not easy!! shargoose: I cover them with hair a lot jakmiami: i haven't gotten to hair yet! shargoose: I had to to cover the bad ears!! jakmiami: tell you what...i'll edit out the chatter and then post it to the list shargoose: Big thanks and hugs techi_mom56 left the room shargoose: NJ, I got 6 shots of the chevron cane. shargoose: Was too busy making one to take too many pics shargoose: But I could put those up seperately or on the leaf tin alblum |
