If you want to get closer to realism, then make full sized flowers and master your blends. Rose petals aren't just one color all the time. There's yellow petals with blood red edges. There's chocolate edged roses. There's roses that are pale beige on one side and dark brown on the other side. Get free with your blends before you fashion your rose petals.
