Fearless Leader: As a Yank I have no idea. esther_reeves: it was a day off for servants.. there was boxing and other entertainments esther_reeves: it is always a public holiday here Fearless Leader: So there is boxing involved? LOL I didn't know if the box referred to presents. alix: Esther ... Do you any particulars on the new Dr. who production? esther_reeves: it's possible it did as well but certianly boxing was a tradional entertainment then esther_reeves: Dr Who.. not really just rumours that there is going to be one. Fearless Leader: Ok, I'll start on this female face. I'll be using the face grid and the "V"s as my guide where to mound the clay. I don't add clay to make features. I make the indentations at the "V" places and move the clay over to mound for the features. dragonladyw2001: Do you know who will play the Doctor? esther_reeves: no, sorry alix: Release I saw only named writer-director ,, can't remember that, sorry alix: NJ, when you getback to keyboard, what size clay shaper? Fearless Leader: 6, 2, 0, depending on what amount of clay is being nudge about pennyi (pennyi@ameritech.net) joined the room Fearless Leader: Merry Christmas Penny Fearless Leader: sculpting a female face, God Willing pennyi: merry christmas pennyi: i am watching pasadena_cal: Hi Penny pennyi: hi cal hows the claying going pasadena_cal: OK getting some of these pointy tools soon. pennyi: lucky pennyi: NJ does fab things with hers :) pasadena_cal: I am learning what, where, how and all that stuff. pasadena_cal: She makes it look soooo easy. Probably only a few hundred mistakes!!! pennyi: i know pennyi: i have never learned to sculpt. I have basically just got down the bulleyes cane, and lace cane Fearless Leader: now for the mouth. We made indentations to the side of the mouth and mounded clay for the lips. We made indentations for between the lower lip and the chin, mounding clay for the lips and the chin. There's the "moustash" move where we formed the lips between the bottom of the nose and the start of the upper lips. If you prepare it that way, making mouths are easy. Now I'll put the indentation under the nose at the center of the upper lip and do the lip separation. Started snowing, then raining ice, snow again, some partial sticking to the ground miss_meme_30: hi mary! miss_meme_30: lol meplus5kids: Other than that, its just wet and cold pennyi: we have 6 inches pennyi: with ice under that lol meplus5kids: Watch the ice (speaking from experience) Rossija: Our 15 hasn't gone anywhere. Too cold today. esther_reeves: its been white in many parts of England but not here pennyi: its 10 degrees here right now meplus5kids: England will be my next European visit, probably in about 15 years!!! Rossija: Where's here, Penny? pennyi: Michigan meplus5kids: Mom lives in Wisconsin, said its too cold to snow but they got plenty of ice!! pennyi: yeah we havent gotten any snow the past two days but its been bitter here as well pennyi: granted to cold to snow alix: Just took my first peek outside of the day ... same old sidewalk, grass, ratty apt. bldg shrubs ... bah humbug pennyi: i want a big snowstorm. the other one didnt reach us pennyi: i love to plow snow since i have an electric start snow plow pennyi: LOL meplus5kids: If we get a big snowstorm here, I'll be working until it's over. They shut part of the interstate system down already alix: I want my clay to get here LOL pennyi: its an oldie but a goodie Rossija: LOL. Just keep it north of Ohio, OK? We have enough down here. pennyi: i know you guys kept all the snow LOL Rossija: not by choice, though it is pretty. And, I know my skier friends are celebrating! dragonladyw2001: You know, NJ, I think I like this face better. It's a happier face, more knowledgeable, than the other. connie_flying: very pretty NJ Fearless Leader: and let's smooth it over and do it again miss_meme_30: i think so to Fearless Leader: you got to get used to doing that for your own practice miss_meme_30: what???? Rossija: I think I'd prepare 4 or 5 heads & do their faces, rather than smoothing & redoing.... That way I could chart my progress. meplus5kids left the room miss_meme_30: me too alix: I think maybe I'd better plan on a few intermediate projects first LOL Rossija: I need to pick a face to work toward first. meplus5kids joined the room Rossija: Watching NJ makes it seem like something I'm almost ready to tackle. meplus5kids: Okay, this makes the 4th time today I got kicked out Rossija: Was me yesterday.... Rossija: Though I was uploading photos to Epson @ the same time as being in chat. On dail-up, not so good... meplus5kids: I have DSL so it's easy to get back in, just a pain. pennyi@ameritech.net left the room Fearless Leader: ok, so what did you discover with my doing this a number of times? miss_meme_30: that ur good at it? miss_meme_30: just kiddin miss_meme_30: lol Fearless Leader: LOL Fearless Leader: hardly Rossija: takes practice miss_meme_30: lots of practice! alix: set priorities very carefully LOL Fearless Leader: Which tricks did you discover with this process? meplus5kids: Well, I got the smothing over part down, I need more tools and you make it look so easy Rossija: if something doesn't turn out right, smooth it out & start again alix: move clay instead of trying to stick on features meplus5kids: I think I got the mouth thing down now. I tried with the layering of clay but the lips look funny. Fearless Leader: Alix gets the trick of it. Don't add features or the faces look like Mr. Potato head meplus5kids: The bottom lip always looks like it got punched int he mouth Fearless Leader: a flat surface with features stuck in Fearless Leader: indent where you need indentations, use the displaced clay to make mounds for your features. That's the trick of it. meplus5kids: Thanks NJ stargazer_sbpcg: ahhh Fearless Leader: roll the clay shaper over the mounds to get their general shape and use the tip of the clay shaper to get detail. alix: my 10th grde geometry teacher! ... Ms Potato Head meplus5kids: lol miss_meme_30: what size did u use? Fearless Leader: Start with making faces without expression and then after you get that figured out then move the muscles around to make smiles or frowns. Fearless Leader: This is a Zero sized clayshaper miss_meme_30: u also used the softer(white) one too! miss_meme_30: i need the soft one...the only ones i can find are the firm ones meplus5kids: Gotta run for a while.
