HAL-PC member Kirt Walker (HalDome@gmail.com) is coordinating
HAL-PC member volunteers at the Astrodome. Technology For All has already set up
impressive hardware capabilities in the Dome. Volunteers are needed
(with or without wireless laptop) to assist evacuees in locating relatives
using existing Internet sites and to do a little initial training of evacuees
in basic computer literacy skills from email to browsing to job searches
to preparing a resume in a word processor. Contact Kirt for details.

Dear Friend,

CHABAD-LUBAVITCH VOLUNTEERS ARE WORKING IN NEW ORLEANS TO EXTRACT PEOPLE FROM THEIR HOMES!

Teams of volunteers are using boats and other means to evacuate people stuck in their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Thank G-d, they have successfully evacuated scores of people and are working tirelessly on more.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE STILL TRAPPED IN THE NEW ORLEANS AREA please use the form below to inform the Lubavitch World Headquarters of the details:

http://www.chabad.org/308982

Also, we are coordinating numerous lists of evacuees and may be able to help get or give you word of someone’s safety via the network of Chabad Lubavitch emissaries worldwide. Use the same link to notify or ask us about your loved ones.

May we all have only good news to report always.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has a Katrina Missing Children's section.

Weather Channel Katrina Effected Cities Message board sorted by city.

From Connie, one of the volunteers in the COCModSquad:

Hi NJ,
I have a Direct TV satellite system. On channel 100, they are posting messages from people who are trying to locate family or friends. You don't have to be a subscriber to use this service. Go to   ---> http://www.directtv.com   <--- In real "tiny" words on the upper left corner is a link to click about the hurricane. It tells you where to send a message. On the right hand side of that page it has a link that will let you read all of the messages that have been posted.

Most of the messages I've seen on that channel look something like "Bob and Sue Smith please call your sister Carol Brown at 898-555-1212."

I'm thinking it might be possible that survivors who have been taken to another area might have access to the messages. Also, thought it was a nice gesture of the satellite company to try and help people.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, at the government's request, announced a hot line and Web site for reuniting family members separated by the storm. People can call  1-888-544-5475 or at http://www.missingkids.com.

From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9144525

...there are message boards for survivors and people looking for family members.  HurricaneKatrinaSurvivors.com is one website with message boards and information.

There I found messages like this one, "My parents and my sister stayed behind during the hurricane.  I can't reach them.  Worried in New York."

New Orleans Pundit is a blog that has message boards for people in all neighborhoods of the city.  There are messages there today from people looking for loved ones and for updates on the condition of their neighborhoods.

Now, if you are looking for a loved one in Southern Mississippi, the blog Eyes on Katrina has established an "I'm OK" line with the Sun Herald.  That number is 1-866-453-1925.

Finally today, bloggers are banding together to start their own relief effort.  Head to the blog Truth Laid Bear--this blogger is one of coordinators of Katrina Blog Relief Day.  These bloggers are telling readers how to contribute to the charities assisting people in the areas hit hardest by this storm.
