Fearless Leader: and the cane that went into making it Fearless Leader: Jenny, I thank you for your invite Fearless Leader: I'll start with the yellow, move to red, then blue and purple Katie: That's really pretty Elise: pretty Jenny! I like that one Elise: great colors JennyP: ty JennyP: I have 8 of them to finish up! Fearless Leader: Folks, I'm going to move through these canes and flowers and explain the process of making them Fearless Leader: ok? Katie: ok!! JennyP: k Elise: k Fearless Leader: and if we could keep our comments to the cane and flower construction we can make good time before my apartment gets too hot Fearless Leader: ok? JennyP: k Fearless Leader: This rose is a cane made with a two color blend Fearless Leader: yellow and pink and the blend turns orange Fearless Leader: I took the plug of blended colors and made the yellow part into a "T" shape Fearless Leader: pinching in the pink Fearless Leader: then I wrapped the yellow that was sticking out to the sides Fearless Leader: and pulled them down Fearless Leader: over the blend and the pink Fearless Leader: to just get the top curve of the petal to have the yellow Fearless Leader: any questions at this point? Fearless Leader: ok, does anyone need me to show how to stretch out this leaf shape into a rose petal and build a rose? Fearless Leader: or has everyone seen that and we can go to the next flower and cane Fearless Leader: shall we build a rose from this cane or shall we move on to the other flower and cane pair? JennyP: i"m good Elise: me too Katie: me too Fearless Leader: sandwich red with yellow Fearless Leader: then layer with pearl that's longer so the pearl goes over the yellow and red sandwich Fearless Leader: wedge Fearless Leader: slice and form into any flower petal shape you want Fearless Leader: now for taking that yellow and doing a blend with it Fearless Leader: ok it's a blend with a yellow mixed with pearl and a dark pink Fearless Leader: after the blend was done and it reduced to a plug Fearless Leader: I sliced it three times and inserted a darker red Fearless Leader: pulled the bottom to a wedge Fearless Leader: slice petals and pulled them into shape Fearless Leader: ok, taking pink and yellow again Fearless Leader: the inserts in this blend Fearless Leader: is a lace cane Fearless Leader: made with a pink and red bullseye and a red surround Fearless Leader: it was reduce to dots Fearless Leader: formed as a flat football Fearless Leader: sliced and inserted in the plug of blend Fearless Leader: I think I could have used white instead of pink in the lace cane and gotten more contrast Fearless Leader: when you pull the petals, the different consistencies of the clay makes texture on your flower petals crysalis7 joined the room Fearless Leader: that lace cane there Fearless Leader: is the inserts in this blend Fearless Leader: see how if I used white there'd be more contrast when it is reduced to mini Fearless Leader: this is an inverted blend crysalis7: did you already go over assembly of the petals into a flower? Fearless Leader: I'm doing four petal simple flower like this for samples with the canes here Fearless Leader: I didn't go over the construction of the flower yet, just going over the cane design crysalis7: k twinmom94002 joined the room Fearless Leader: I've gone through the yellow ones and am moving through orange right now twinmom94002: hi gang! Katie: Hi Fearless Leader: shall we do roll call? First name and Location please Fearless Leader: NoraJean, San Francisco Katie: Katie, New York twinmom94002: lib, san francisco crysalis7: bobbie, miami frogger70301: sorry, Mitch, LA JennyP: Jenny P Minnesota Fearless Leader: Ok quick review of the flower and cane pairs Fearless Leader: orange and pink blend with red stripe inserts Fearless Leader: that's what is on cam right now Fearless Leader: pink and yellow blend as a rose Fearless Leader: red sandwiched with yellow surrounded by pearl stacked Fearless Leader: this is what I was about to describe Fearless Leader: it's an inverted blend Fearless Leader: take the blend of any two colors Fearless Leader: reduce to a plug Fearless Leader: slice of thin slices off that plug Fearless Leader: turn them around Fearless Leader: and insert so the dark goes into the light and visa versa Fearless Leader: that big big there Fearless Leader: was reduced to be the inserts in this blend Fearless Leader: so when you pull the petal into shape Fearless Leader: it has these little bumps Fearless Leader: because the different color clay reduces at different rates Fearless Leader: sort of instant texturizing Fearless Leader: ok, I'm going to clear these and get the next set arranged, going into the red shift Fearless Leader: just a red and white lace cane Fearless Leader: reduced and at the end I made the cane heart shaped Fearless Leader: and covered with pearl Fearless Leader: flats of gold, fan folded into an orange mix Fearless Leader: when you pull the petal the gold sinks in Fearless Leader: giving more texture to the petal Fearless Leader: purple and red blend, the purple has a lot of pearl Fearless Leader: putting purple and pink through their paces Fearless Leader: blue and white blend Fearless Leader: with white inserts Fearless Leader: surrounded by white crysalis7: the shape of the blooms is the same as the blooms on my plumeria tree in my yard. twinmom94002: that is particularly kewl, nj Fearless Leader: James liked this one best twinmom94002: gmta Fearless Leader: LOL Fearless Leader: now these blue ones were sort of ... hmmm crysalis7: freaky Fearless Leader: fantasy flowers Fearless Leader: the lined one looks like fingerprints twinmom94002: oh i love the one on my left ....what's the blend in that one? Fearless Leader: it's red surrounded by blue then surrounded by white Fearless Leader: no blend on the one on the left twinmom94002: kewl...great effect Fearless Leader: then I had some leaf experiments that were sort of hmmm as well Fearless Leader: see, they are sort of ... hmmmm, but mixed with some good leaves they could work twinmom94002: they're exotic Fearless Leader: hide them in the chaos of the jungle Fearless Leader: now for leaves Fearless Leader: so I'm going to take one of these leaves and put the Lei flowers on it to get this sort of pendant Fearless Leader: just roll the leaf over for the cord Fearless Leader: see how it's made? Really easy crysalis7: the stacked flowers remind me of bromeliad blooms, especially with the big, shiny leaves. Fearless Leader: with the blended rose petals it's really sweet, ruffle the edges Fearless Leader: so let's take a 5 minute break here and we'll get ready to get Lei'd ok? Elise: LOL ok crysalis7 left the room twinmom94002: i'm gonna be afk for a bit; gotta fold laundry Katie: I can't stay. Sorry. But thanks for the invite. crzy4dzny left the room Fearless Leader: going to save log and post to the list, brb Elise: ok esther_reeves joined the room esther_reeves: HI just popping in for a minute, got visitors coming in a mo Fearless Leader: Howdy Esther Fearless Leader: just about to do the lei flower trick Fearless Leader: since I have to make three flowers I'll get to it... Fearless Leader: NoraJean, San Francisco Elise: Elise, Missouri esther_reeves: Esther, coventry, england JennyP: Jenny P Minnesota frogger70301: Mitch, LA Elise: that's beautiful Fearless Leader: so there it is then Fearless Leader: four petal lei flowers, chained together, laid on a leaf Fearless Leader: for a quick pendant you can make with your scraps, Fearless Leader: these large leaves are test pressed slices Fearless Leader: for me to see the cane design pressed out Fearless Leader: hated to waste them Fearless Leader: so I'm done Fearless Leader: LOL Fearless Leader: so which flower petal would you like to see made again? |
