snooks2312: Hi everyone
chelyha: i got the stamp of appoval from the neighborhood kids for my
tree monster
Fearless Leader: Hey honey did you check out the link?
Fearless Leader: oh cool, the kids like it, how fun.
chelyha: they want me to make some for them
chelyha: I'll try to scan him later and I'll post a pic to the list
Fearless Leader: Cool Cheryl, did you check out the pix on the link?
chelyha: no, will do that now
snooks2312: just saw the link, way too cool
Fearless Leader: That's the back
Fearless Leader: the image was found on the sheet with a mirror image
Fearless Leader: then filled from the back with filler clay
Fearless Leader: so one never knows how it will turn out until it's
done
Fearless Leader: no one ever knows
Fearless Leader: I mean
chelyha: the pics are great. Mine doesn't look anything like yours
Fearless Leader: It shouldn't
Fearless Leader: everyone's should look how they make it, all chop is
different, all mirror images will be individual
chelyha: no. some of the parts broke off
chelyha: had to glue them back on
chelyha: snakes
Fearless Leader: ah, snakes
Fearless Leader: they do that
Fearless Leader: break I mean
chelyha: if I coat them with acrylic do you think it would strengthen
them?
Fearless Leader: what kind of clay, how big are they?
Fearless Leader: could they use some branches or leaves to make them
more secure?
Fearless Leader: can hide a multitude of sins with leaves
Fearless Leader: fig leaf for instance
chelyha: I think that's what I should have done. It's a lot of
SculpeyIII which isn't very strong
chelyha: mixed with premo
chelyha: but the sculpeyIII is cheap so that's why I use it
chelyha: I ordered some sculpting tools from Clay Alley
Fearless Leader: some clay shapers?
chelyha: yes
Fearless Leader: I love mine
chelyha: and one of those 5 blade cutters
Fearless Leader: this large one is from the paint department of the
art supply store, it's a paint shaper
chelyha: I wonder if they'd have them at Michaels
Fearless Leader: So since there is just the two of you
Fearless Leader: is there anything particular
Fearless Leader: you'd like to see?
Fearless Leader: or should I just noodle
Fearless Leader: and doodle
chelyha: the basketweave thing please
Fearless Leader: ok
chelyha: since I missed it earlier
Fearless Leader: I'm going to reduce this jelly roll blend
Fearless Leader: into the sections I need for the basket weave
Fearless Leader: or would you like to see lines, stripes?
chelyha: whatever you did earlier because it looked great
Fearless Leader: I took a sheet of gold
Fearless Leader: and a sheet of crimson
Fearless Leader: and then pressed them together
Fearless Leader: All on the widest setting of the pasta press
Fearless Leader: from this two tone pressed sheet I'm going to cut of
sections to stack
Fearless Leader: to make the blocks for the basket weave
merrie60us joined the room
Fearless Leader: you with me?
chelyha: yes
Fearless Leader: Hey Merrie, doing a quick basket weave
snooks2312: =]
snooks2312: sorry, cat stepped on the keyboard
chelyha: lol
merrie60us: Oh cool
Fearless Leader: Cheryl
Fearless Leader: are you ready?
chelyha: yes
Fearless Leader: here is where I cut off the edges from the right and
place them in the spaces on the left
Fearless Leader: had to move top triangle to the middle for it fit
better that way
merrie60us: now can this be reduced
chelyha: ok
Fearless Leader: now to cut the top
Fearless Leader: point and move it to the bottom
merrie60us: or another one added to make bigger piece
Fearless Leader: where there is a space for it
Fearless Leader: you can do a number of things after this next step,
Merrie. I made flower petals with basket weave just because it was
trippy.
chelyha: oh that is sooooo Cool!
Fearless Leader: Now the theory is
Fearless Leader: we can slice this
chelyha: now you can reduce it, yes?
Fearless Leader: and lay the slices side to side
Fearless Leader: and they will match
Fearless Leader: the lines I mean
Fearless Leader: let's do that to see the effect
chelyha: you know me the beadmaker
snooks2312: that looks cool
chelyha: that is wonderful. I'm going to make one asap
merrie60us: this reminds me a little of the rick rack sheet
merrie60us: very cool
Fearless Leader: and it's so easy
Fearless Leader: if we used a jelly roll blend
chelyha: very easy
Fearless Leader: it looks sculpted
chelyha: oh can you show us that too?
merrie60us: can you recap what you did I saw you put the pieces
together of basket weave then how did it get so big? Did you put
through pasta machine?
Fearless Leader: I'll show the jelly roll blend basket weave, but
first I'll answer Merrie's questions.
chelyha: laid it on a sheet of gold and then thru the rollers?
Fearless Leader: I laid the slices on a gold sheet and ran it through
the widest setting
merrie60us: oh okay thanks
Fearless Leader: then I turned it going in the other direction
Fearless Leader: and pressed it twice with narrow settings for each
press
merrie60us: It is so cool
Fearless Leader: Now I have a jelly roll blend but the dark color was
on the center
merrie60us: what do you mean two times at each setting on pm
Fearless Leader: widest for the first
Fearless Leader: next setting after a turn of the sheet so it
stretches out that way too
Fearless Leader: another setting for the third pass
Fearless Leader: three settings, each getting more narrow
merrie60us: on third do you turn it
chelyha: oh I get it
Fearless Leader: if I can
merrie60us: thanks I get it
Fearless Leader: often it's too wide to turn it by the third press
merrie60us:
Fearless Leader: Here's an unrolled jelly roll blend
Fearless Leader: the dark was in the center for the basket weave
Fearless Leader: we need the gold to be in the center
Fearless Leader: so it's looking a little dicey right now
Fearless Leader: but don't worry
Fearless Leader: it'll be fine
merrie60us: is she flattening it or making it square?
chelyha: flattening and cutting and stacking, maybe
chelyha: then making square
chelyha: in half and then in thirds
merrie60us: is she making another basketweave?
chelyha: yes
snooks2312: yup
merrie60us: thanks
chelyha: it looks like a stone wall
chelyha: this would work for my garden beads!
chelyha: ok now if you make canes, you could reduce and cut and
reassemble
merrie60us: what are garden beads
chelyha: this is awesome
Fearless Leader: when you have a narrow cane
Fearless Leader: and you want to get the most slices out of it
chelyha: I make beads, and I like to use a lot of leaves and flower
petals
Fearless Leader: back it with scrap clay
Fearless Leader: to hold it steady
merrie60us: Do you have them in an album they sound great
chelyha: www.koreescreations.com
chelyha: that is my website
merrie60us: thanks
merrie60us: cut two slices and laid next to each other on clay sheet
snooks2312: oh, that's cool
chelyha: thank you Nora Jean
merrie60us: It would make a great brick walkway in a mini house
chelyha: This is wonderful
merrie60us: very nice thanks NJ
Fearless Leader: now that one on the left
Fearless Leader: because it is a blend
Fearless Leader: and because the light part is in the center
Fearless Leader: you can add filler clay to the back of it
Fearless Leader: and press down along the lines there
Fearless Leader: to accentuate the 3D effect
Fearless Leader: right now it simulates depth with color
Fearless Leader: with filler clay on the back and pressing from the
front
Fearless Leader: we can exaggerate that simulated depth
Fearless Leader: cast real shadows in the changing light
chelyha: what a great covering for a tin
chelyha: I wonder what would happen if you used translucent in the
center
Fearless Leader: depends on the background sheet
Fearless Leader: let's say
chelyha: then you could use it to cover a candle holder
Fearless Leader: we did a jelly roll blend like this
chelyha: ooh, new idea!
Fearless Leader: and used translucent to pearl or something
Fearless Leader: and then pressed it on black
Fearless Leader: you'd have bubbles
Fearless Leader: for the center will be clear
chelyha: OMG that would be too cool!
Fearless Leader: and only the outer edge will show and it'll show
gradually
Fearless Leader: I've been pushing this idea for a year now
Fearless Leader: and you're the first to catch on to it
