Fearless Leader: I had to reboot
Fearless Leader: good timing actually since I had just saved the log
Fearless Leader: So is everyone ready for the next step?
daytonlinda: oh my gosh, i thought i had slept thru it  been sick all
week -- nj, are you long distance contagious?
dream2b100 joined the room
Fearless Leader: Oh honey, I'm so sorry I gave you this cold by email.
LOL
Fearless Leader: Also I'm doing variations on a theme, and I'll be
repeating this cane all week end, with little differences
chelyha55: ready
Fearless Leader: Linda, check out this sheet
daytonlinda: very nice, is that elvis blue and silver?
Fearless Leader: That's the basic element
Fearless Leader: a jelly roll blend
Fearless Leader: sliced lengthwise
Fearless Leader: into fourths
Fearless Leader: and then stacked with all the pointy ends going in
the same direction
Fearless Leader: reduce, slice, stack, reduce again
Fearless Leader: like lace cane with the bullseye
Fearless Leader: then just slice and press to sheets
Fearless Leader: Ok, now
Fearless Leader: does everyone understand the CHEVRON FLIP?
daytonlinda: yep
NikiT: i think so
chelyha55: yeah
Fearless Leader: Let me do a wee demo on the flip and then move on to
the next variation of this theme, ok?
merrie60us joined the room
Fearless Leader: Merrie came on a good horse
dream2b100 left the room
merrie60us: I had a hard time getting here
Fearless Leader: I got knocked off myself and had to reboot
Fearless Leader: maybe it's the week end, network traffic or something
like that
merrie60us: Well the weather is terrible here
merrie60us: oh nice is this the fish scales
Fearless Leader: Ok that chunk there
Fearless Leader: is a jelly roll blend
Fearless Leader: cut into fourths lengthwise
Fearless Leader: and stacked
Fearless Leader: ok?
Fearless Leader: Reduce and repeat like lace cane to get the pattern
in the back
merrie60us: yes, thanks I like it
Fearless Leader: if you reduce all wild you'll get wilder patterns
Fearless Leader: think dragon
Fearless Leader: change the color to a blend between crimson/gold and
purple/yellow and then do this technique
Fearless Leader: go nuts
Fearless Leader: add dots between all the scales with stacked sheet
slices going around the basic element before reducing
daytonlinda: green w/gold and make leaves, eh?
Fearless Leader: tons of stuff you can do with this basic pattern
Fearless Leader: bit size
Fearless Leader: Big size, even
Fearless Leader: then the same thing reduced, sliced, stacked, reduced
again
Fearless Leader: ok, everyone with me here?
Fearless Leader: here it came out different
merrie60us: I have one question, is the jelly roll two sheets of color
or ONe full sheet and one half sheet
Fearless Leader: and different again
Fearless Leader: a blend of two or more colors
techi_mom56 joined the room
merrie60us: oh okay makes sense thanks
Fearless Leader: shall I do it from the start? Do the blend, jelly
roll, then scales?
Fearless Leader: We got fresh faces here we should start back at the
beginning
Fearless Leader: someone can take shots maybe?
Fearless Leader: I'm doing the logs
Fearless Leader: or shall I show you this trick with a chevron flipped
leaf cane
Fearless Leader: lets flip out
merrie60us: If no one minds I would really appreciate it
Fearless Leader: and then do it basic again
frogger70301: I'm still trying to help Lisa get the cam.
Fearless Leader: There's the basic chevron flip leaf cane, right?
Fearless Leader: well what if we stacked this the way we did that
sliced jelly roll blend? what sort of pattern would it make on a
pressed sheet?
dream2b100 joined the room
Fearless Leader: let's see real quick and then I'll do the basic cane
again from scratch
Fearless Leader: who wants to see a chevron flip review
Fearless Leader: it'll take two seconds
Fearless Leader: a show of hands
Fearless Leader: or I move forward
daytonlinda: go4it
chelyha55: doit it's a valuable technique
Fearless Leader: that's it in a nut shell, now lets get wild with it
Fearless Leader: I put a center vein with this cane, see?
Fearless Leader: a sandwich of blue/silver/blue
Fearless Leader: I'm going to cut this squared off cane into fouths
and stack it like fish scales
Fearless Leader: you with me so far? Now we turn the squares to so
they are diamonds, and we stack them, much like doing quilts
Fearless Leader: now to reduce this and cut and stack again
Fearless Leader: let's press a couple of slices of this at this size
Fearless Leader: then reduce and slice and stack and then press that
repeated pattern
dream2b100 left the room
Fearless Leader: That's the pressed slices of one reduction
Fearless Leader: now let's repeat the reduction and stacking and do
the press and see the difference
merrie60us: That's a great technique thank you
merrie60us: Are you using a rolling pin to reduce the square log?
Fearless Leader: yup
Fearless Leader: and then I give it a little pull
merrie60us: that's what I am doing wrong cannot get my squares to
reduce well
Fearless Leader: now let's press this one
NikiT: how do you keep your canes from mushing down when you cut them?
even if i let mine sit they still smush... and i use premo and fimo..
merrie60us: Put in freezer for a little while
chelyha55: make sure your blade is clean
chelyha55: and don't let it get old and dull
daytonlinda: I'm just happy to see NJ doesnt slice straight either
frogger70301: I find a little powder on the blade helps.
merrie60us: Me 2
Fearless Leader: Ok, before I press I'll take questions
Fearless Leader: if any
Fearless Leader: Ok, off to press then
seblack991234: That is so lovely.
chelyha55: it looks like a crocheted blanket
seblack991234: They look like hand painted silk scarves to me.
Fearless Leader: by turning it this way and that the reflection will
look different, it's called the Mica Shift, Suz.
Fearless Leader: and it is easy to do
seblack991234: Seems so.
Fearless Leader: sheets, stacked, cut on the diagonal
Fearless Leader: you can leave them big like this sheet
seblack991234: Now what are you going to do with all your lovelies?
Fearless Leader: just reducing it once more and stacking it
Fearless Leader: you get this seemingly complex design and it's just a
trick
Fearless Leader: Oh, I'm doing my Christmas Ornaments with all this
blue and silver
Fearless Leader: for Elvis
Fearless Leader: The Blue Blue Christmas
daytonlinda: I am glad I got to see that running it through the pm
doesnt always make a big blur
seblack991234: Ohhhhh now I see.
Fearless Leader: Linda
Fearless Leader: trick with pressing
Fearless Leader: all my sheets start out at the thickest setting
seblack991234: Are you going to use liquid sculpy on them also?
Fearless Leader: before I lay cane slices down I reduce that sheet a
notch or two
Fearless Leader: Slice the cane slices as thin as you can
Fearless Leader: then roll over them with a rolling pin
Fearless Leader: before pressing
merrie60us: so you start thick then reduce one or two notches and then
lay slices on sheet?
Fearless Leader: that way you get it all evened out before it goes
through the rollers
Fearless Leader: start out with the thickest setting
Fearless Leader: press
Fearless Leader: then narrow it one notch and TURN the sheet, press
merrie60us: When you put the slices on and put through the pm is it
still thick
Fearless Leader: do that four times
daytonlinda: i think i can manage that! that is SO pretty
Fearless Leader: Ok, now if we did Crimson and Gold?
Fearless Leader: and did this feathery design?
Fearless Leader: what if we reduced the cane not to be a Square
Fearless Leader: but an OVAL
Fearless Leader: you got feathers then
Fearless Leader: Depending on what colors you're going to use you can
do reptile
Fearless Leader: keeping this design to two colors shows you the
potential of a basic stacking trick
Fearless Leader: So, 10 minutes to the next break
Fearless Leader: and I'll take any questions I might have missed
seblack991234: I really like how easy this is. It's a shame more folks
haven't watched this....perhaps they would get over the fear of clay,
huh?
Fearless Leader: quick, cheap and easy is my motto
Fearless Leader: Ok, here's another trick
daytonlinda: i plan to keep it a secret, they are much more impressed
that way
Fearless Leader: with pressing
Fearless Leader: LOL, Linda
Fearless Leader: Dig
seblack991234: Well, you seem to always produce something for others
to copy and be proud of.
Fearless Leader: let's say you want the design tight, but this sheet
here is too tight
merrie60us: If you were using this technique for a round bead would
you put the slices on the bead or do like you
merrie60us: just did and make a sheet and cover a bead
Fearless Leader: hmmm, round bead
Fearless Leader: right angle pattern
merrie60us: I have trouble getting my slices to blend on my beads
Fearless Leader: I wouldn't do it, I'd have reduced this to ovals
Fearless Leader: and sliced it like the world map
Fearless Leader: or something
merrie60us: oh good idea
Fearless Leader: I'm going to press this sheet again with another
backing of blue
Fearless Leader: and open the pattern a bit
Fearless Leader: now when you have a sheet that no longer fits in the
press and you don't want to cut it
Fearless Leader: you can pull it like pizza dough
dream2b100 joined the room
Fearless Leader: ok
Fearless Leader: time for a break
Fearless Leader: and when I come back I'll do the blend, jelly roll
and do the basic fish scale
merrie60us: Thank you. How long break
Fearless Leader: for those who haven't seen it yet
Fearless Leader: about 15 minutes, if that's ok with everyone
merrie60us: okie dokie
daytonlinda: time to eat, i may be back. thanks, i learn a ton even in
an hour
Fearless Leader: I'm glad Linda, I'm off to get something to eat as
well
Fearless Leader: so I'll save log here.
