Sept. 2002 Demo Mini Foods: Peeled Oranges

bonsaikathy: ok thanks
Fearless Leader: questions, let's take questions now
ladytex49: How does one make the lemon cane?
lindaslists: what is the pic of? My chat went down
Fearless Leader: you'll see the citrus cane after this lemonade pitcher
Fearless Leader: close the webcam window
teri56: Linda - it's a plug of lemonade
Fearless Leader: open it again
ladytex49: okey dokey...
teri56: rolled in ice cubes
Fearless Leader: that happens when you get kicked off
lindaslists: ok.
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/Lemonade/Lemonade-Grp.htm
Fearless Leader: we're aiming for this
lindaslists: ok
Fearless Leader: a lemonade pitcher with slices and ice
lindaslists: ice cubes?
Fearless Leader: cured ice, it's a starburst pattern with pearl, glow in the dark and translucent sheets
Fearless Leader: pressed real thin and made into a wedge
Fearless Leader: made into a circle like the citrus cane
Fearless Leader: reduced to size and then sliced so the ice has that fracture
Fearless Leader: in the center
Fearless Leader: and doesn't look dead in the glass
Fearless Leader: with minis using glow in the dark
Fearless Leader: with the ice layers
Fearless Leader: gives it kick
Fearless Leader: other wise your ice will disappear like in the grape juice
Fearless Leader: let me get you that link
Fearless Leader:
New Ice
Fearless Leader: let me know when you have that page open
Fearless Leader: see the difference with and without the glow in the dark and pearl
ladytex49: I see the difference...
Fearless Leader: translucent alone makes dull ice cubes, kick up the icy look with using pearl and glow in the dark.
Fearless Leader: now I'll mash these ice cubes into this plug and slap some lemon slices on it and in it
Fearless Leader: ok?
teri56: NJ - when you made the cubes, did you press out a sheet and cut into cubes after curing?
teri56: brb
buci131: gotta go
buci131: sorry--got to take care of something here--can someone pick up screen shots?
teri56: wow! - a friend just popped in - gotta go
teri56: sorry
teri56: xoxo
teri56 left the room
lindaslists left the room
Fearless Leader: trick with making pitchers
Fearless Leader: is to add the ice and the slices cured to raw juice mix
Fearless Leader: make the pitcher shape and cure
Fearless Leader: no handle
Fearless Leader: no lip
Fearless Leader: no foot
Fearless Leader: cure it like this first
Fearless Leader: sand the sides smooth
Fearless Leader: so the lemon slices and the juce are at the same level
Fearless Leader: then after the first curing
Fearless Leader: add the lip, food and handle of the pitcher with no color translucent
Fearless Leader: and you're done
Fearless Leader: so who's still here?
ladytex49: I am...
Fearless Leader: I can't trust the YM list
frogger70301: I am.
Fearless Leader: wanna do a quick orange?
ladytex49: yeah...
Fearless Leader: ok, let me get the url and I got the stuff right here
frogger70301: sounds good to me.
buci131 left the room
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-grp.htm
ladytex49: got it...
sew_short: Kay is back
Fearless Leader: just in time to do an orange
Fearless Leader: that you can peel
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-grp.htm
sew_short: Good
Fearless Leader: I'm going to take a 5 minute break while you all review that tute, ok?
ladytex49: ok...
bonsaikathy: Sorry I'm back, had to slap some egg salad together real quick
bonsaikathy: will do a log save now
Fearless Leader: back
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-grp.htm
Fearless Leader: So has everyone reviewed the orange tute?
ladytex49: I have
sew_short: yes
frogger70301: I had to go clean up a mess.
Fearless Leader: figured as much Mommy
Fearless Leader: did you get a chance to review the tute, honey?
frogger70301: no, but anyone want two kids?
frogger70301: Will trade for clay!
sew_short: NO
frogger70301:
sew_short: giggles
sew_short: Hey - how old - I just might trade this teenager
Fearless Leader: are we all ready?
Fearless Leader: I am
Fearless Leader: LOL
ladytex49: I'd take 'em...ohh what AM I sayin...
sew_short: me too
ladytex49: I am...
frogger70301: I'm ready.
bonsaikathy: I'll take em
frogger70301: looked through real quick.
bonsaikathy: I miss having kids around
Fearless Leader: just keep the tute page open
Fearless Leader: when you get bored you can peek over for a clear picture
bonsaikathy: got it open
Fearless Leader: I'm going to take this orange mix
frogger70301: Does Zinc yellow work as good? It's all I got.
ladytex49: Yeah I really do too..mostly at Christmas...
Fearless Leader: see
frogger70301: oh, you're starting after you got the colors mixed, sorry.
bonsaikathy: orange and translucent???
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-mix.htm
sew_short: OK I'm set now
Fearless Leader: please open this one
Fearless Leader: it's the mix ratios
Fearless Leader: you can book mark it and come back later
bonsaikathy: got it
ladytex49: Darn..gotta run...really enjoyed it...thanks so much...neighbor lady just popped in...See y'all later...byeeeeeeeeee
frogger70301: I got it open, and I saw Cad, yellow, but all I got is zinc.
Fearless Leader: use zinc then
frogger70301: Bye, hon.
Fearless Leader: I usually use zinc
ladytex49 left the room
frogger70301: It'll still work?
Fearless Leader: sure
Fearless Leader: but the most important tool
Fearless Leader: is your own eyeball
frogger70301: Goody! I can finally clay along.
Fearless Leader: now my peeling has three layers
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-002.htm
Fearless Leader: so when we peel the orange it'll look real
Fearless Leader: for real orange peel isn't just orange, there's the pith
Fearless Leader: so going by that mix page I take the mix for the meat of a regular orange
Fearless Leader: and I make a snake with it
Fearless Leader: then I press along one side to make a wedge shape
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-003.htm
Fearless Leader: in that last link
Fearless Leader: see how I don't cover part of this wedge?
Fearless Leader: that's so we don't get double pith layers between the wedges when we build our arch,
bonsaikathy: makes sense
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-004.htm
Fearless Leader: I'll make effort not to smear the cut
Fearless Leader: so I'm going to partly cover this wedge
Fearless Leader: and slice it into sections
Fearless Leader: adding the wedges together
Fearless Leader: you get an arch
Fearless Leader: once there I will stop
Fearless Leader: any questions so far?
sew_short: not yet
frogger70301: not from me. I'm still mixing.
bonsaikathy: not so far
bonsaikathy: ok she's taken and after cutting the orange inside into a long wedge shape, she covers two long sides leaving the 3rd uncovered
bonsaikathy: she cut the long log into 3rd's, equal
bonsaikathy: placing each side against each other back to front if that makes sense, one covered side against one uncovered side
bonsaikathy: She cut that in half from top to bottom, then placed those two arch shapes together to join the circle
bonsaikathy: placed a pith colored log in the center
Fearless Leader: now I'll take questions
bonsaikathy: You did it wo well that I don't have any
bonsaikathy: sorry that was so well
sew_short left the room
bonsaikathy: Mitch, you still in here
bonsaikathy: I think she was claying along with you NJ
frogger70301: Yeah, I'm still here. Just mixing.
bonsaikathy: good
Fearless Leader: next to do is to reduce this but I'm taking a little break here
Fearless Leader: this cane pattern
bonsaikathy: sure go ahead
Fearless Leader: the wedge to a circle
Fearless Leader: change the color
Fearless Leader: change the fruit
sew_short joined the room
Fearless Leader: change the color and the fruit becomes a vegetable
Fearless Leader: Hey Kay
Fearless Leader: thought we lost you there
bonsaikathy: same for a tomato?
sew_short: sorry tried to answer that I had no questions and knocked myself off line
Fearless Leader: Tomato is another story
bonsaikathy: using red
Fearless Leader: seeds
bonsaikathy: oh yeah, forgot that
Fearless Leader: the tomato meat surround
Fearless Leader: it's a bulls eye
Fearless Leader: so bulls eye
Fearless Leader: to lace cane
Fearless Leader: inner tomato with seeds
Fearless Leader: take two halves
Fearless Leader: of a circl
Fearless Leader: circle
Fearless Leader: of this lace cane
Fearless Leader: and then add a center darker bit
Fearless Leader: and surround those two halves with that darker mix
Fearless Leader: and I don't know why the color on my webcam changes
Fearless Leader: I turned off the TV and everything
Fearless Leader: sheesh
Fearless Leader: anyway
Fearless Leader: in Cheeseburgers and Fries
bonsaikathy: it looks pink but I think we realize that it isn't
Fearless Leader: there's tomato
Fearless Leader: also there's these weird lighting changes
Fearless Leader: that show up on cam
Fearless Leader: but not here at home
bonsaikathy: I remember now seeing the tute
Fearless Leader: ok, so I'm going to reduce this cane
Fearless Leader: getting one side of the cane down to the mini size I need the orange to be
Fearless Leader: I don't reduce the whole thing down to mini
Fearless Leader: because it is crap for storage
Fearless Leader: just reduce one end
Fearless Leader: down to mini
Fearless Leader: leave the rest fat
bonsaikathy: ok
Fearless Leader: easier to store, no draping long snakes of cane over each other and all that
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-005.htm
Fearless Leader: This is our aim
Fearless Leader: here I go
Fearless Leader: Oh I'm going to reduce and add another layer of peel
Fearless Leader: sorry
Fearless Leader: now I go
jude (greatauntjudy) joined the room
Fearless Leader: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-005.htm
Fearless Leader: Orange we glad to see Aunt Jude
Fearless Leader: LOL
sew_short: Har har
jude:
sew_short: But yes we are glad to see her
bonsaikathy: yup
jude: Dinner is done so I can do dessert now!
jude: We still making goodies?
bonsaikathy: oranges
bonsaikathy: she just finished doing the wedge insides
sew_short: Biz-Archive/food/Citrus/2002-orange-005.htm
jude: Oh! Okie...
sew_short: Aunt Jude - this is the tute we are watching
jude: Okie, thanks!
jude: I love how those turn out.
sew_short: She has been adding another layer of peel
jude: Right.
Fearless Leader: Now I'm going to cut off a section of this cane
Fearless Leader: and close up the open ends
Fearless Leader: so we have an enclosed orange
Fearless Leader: then I'll slice some and peel one and show you how it looks
bonsaikathy: good that's what I wanted to see
Fearless Leader: I'm doing them larger than usual so you can see
sew_short: good
Fearless Leader: are you ready to see it get peeled?
bonsaikathy: yup
sew_short: yes
frogger70301: yup. but STILL mixing.
frogger70301:
bonsaikathy: good for you Mitch
sew_short: you funny Mitch
frogger70301: I'm determined to get this done before hubby gets home. He's not gonna be happy.
greatauntjudy left the room
jude (greatauntjudy) joined the room
frogger70301: His truck just broke down.
bonsaikathy: I made Gary soup and egg salad, fortunately he didn't seem to notice that he didn't get a big meal because I was BUSY, haha
sew_short: Oh no
bonsaikathy: uh, oh, sorry to hear about that
frogger70301: best part is, he was going shrimping.
sew_short: See how NJ just peeled that sucker?
bonsaikathy: bummer
bonsaikathy: just like a real one
jude: That's really cool.
frogger70301: Yeah, that's gonna be a prob for me. I can't even peel a real one.
sew_short: Yum - last night I wanted ding dongs - now I want an orange. Mmmmm
sew_short: LOL
bonsaikathy: hehe, that does sound good doesn't it
jude: Ding dongs? LOL! I won't sink lower than Little Debbie. hehehehe
bonsaikathy: anyone doing screen shots?
sew_short: Still don't know how
jude: I just got here.
bonsaikathy: I don't have a capture card so i can't
bonsaikathy: Wish I could
bonsaikathy: orange wedge, cool
frogger70301: Man, now I feel bad. I should have stopped claying to do them.
jude: Capture card?
sew_short: I doubt if I could even save logs cause I can't load them into Zip or whatever to email
bonsaikathy: no problem,
teri56 joined the room
bonsaikathy: I've been saving the log all along and will send it to NJ when we're done here
bonsaikathy: NJ, that is too cool
bonsaikathy: Hi Teri
jude: The logs are easy...simple copy and paste.
sew_short: Wow
teri56: hi
teri56: cute oranges
Fearless Leader: last thing to do with oranges
sew_short: Hi Teri
Fearless Leader: is tap them with a tooth brush
Fearless Leader: on the peeling side
bonsaikathy: or run them across course sand paper
sew_short left the room
Fearless Leader: there
bonsaikathy: thanks NJ, that was neat
bonsaikathy: too cool
